Abstract

The increasing demand for electricity and the transition toward low-carbon energy encourage the utilization of renewable resources at the regional level. This study aims to assess the potential application and development pathways of wind power generation in West Aceh Regency based on previous research, published wind data, turbine technology development, and renewable-energy policy. A descriptive-evaluative approach was applied using literature review and secondary data. The main sources included studies on wind potential in West Aceh, Weibull-based wind assessment in Aceh, small-scale turbine performance, and national electricity planning and renewable-energy policy. The reviewed evidence indicates that wind characteristics in West Aceh vary with location, measurement height, observation period, and data source. A study focusing on southern West Aceh reported a wind speed of approximately 1.923 meters per second at 50 meters in Meulaboh, while a small-scale turbine study in West Aceh referred to wind conditions ranging from 3.4 to 5.8 meters per second. These findings indicate that utility-scale wind power development cannot be determined solely from the currently published secondary data. More appropriate development pathways include long-term wind measurement, micrositing, selection of low-wind-speed turbines, and integration with solar power and energy storage for local loads. The study provides an initial evidence base for field measurements and technical planning of wind power development in West Aceh
